Liberty Professionals director George Afriyie says Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has decided against buying shares in the club.
Gyan, who played for the Scientific Soccer lads during his days in Ghana before departing for Italy, was reported to be pondering a move to own the majority shares of the Dansoman-based outfit.
It, however, looks as though the deal will not see the light of day following latest revelation on Monday.
“It’s important that when we are with players, you also have to advise them because [they] won’t be playing forever,” Afriyie told Starr FM.
“At a certain point he [Gyan] would want to go into administration or coaching or what he thinks the future can do for him.
“But some of us [asked ourselves] ‘why can’t we convince him to be a shareholder in the club?’ So it was a suggestion.
“But the truth is that I don’t know how some portion of the media picked it up and so for now he has informed me that he is no more interested.
“I can’t say whether in the future, he would want to come on board, but per the last time I spoke to him, he is no more interested.”
Gyan has provided support in various forms to his former club.
In the recently-ended 2015-16 Ghana Premier League season, the Al Ahli striker was at hand to pay player salaries and winning bonuses to boost the team in their fight against relegation.
