A former Black Stars player Augustine Arhinful says Asamoah Gyan’s absence in the semi-final game against Equatorial Guinea is likely to affect the chances of the team.
The Al Ain attacker, who hasn’t been fully fit during the competition due to illness, picked up a nasty injury in their quarter final game against Guinea after he was hit intentionally in his hip by the Guinean goalkeeper Naby Yattara.
Gyan had an MRI scan on Monday but has failed to train since and is likely to miss the game against the host nation.
Arhinful has, however, urged other players to step up and deliver in the absence of the Ghana skipper.
“It’s going to be a big blow for the entire team because he is the team captain, and they take inspiration from him.
“He is one of the best on the continent, and every team needs its best players in times like this but we can’t do anything about it and we have to make do with what is left and maybe it’s good for others to also exhibit what they can do.
“It’s unfortunate, but we have to hope that it goes well without him,” the Ex Black Stars Striker told Starr FM’s Michael Nsiah Octhere in Mongomo.
