He insists that he has been misunderstood and is being portrayed by a section of the public as an unpatriotic footballer who has turned his back on his nation in pursuit of selfish interests.
In an exclusive interview with Soccer Express on his return from Germany Kwadwo Poku explained that he was duly permitted by his club, King Faisal to leave for the trials upon an invitation from the German club.
Poku further explained that all correspondences concerning the trip were done between the clubs without he playing any role. He therefore does not see the reason why fingers are being pointed at him for staying away from national duty.
Moreover, he claimed that he left at a time that the Meteors were not in camp and stated again that even though he was out for the trials, he could have still joined the team to South Africa if the technical handlers so wished.
"After all some of my colleagues were scheduled to meet the team in South Africa and I wonder why people thought I couldn?t be made to do same," he asked.
The reigning league joint goal king gave the assurance that he would always avail his services to the nation whenever the occasion demands.
Touching on his performance during the trials he said he was impressive. "I?m not sounding boastful, but if modesty would permit me I?d say I did well? He intimated.
Poku told this paper that the authorities involved (Hamburg and King Faisal) are presently working around the clock to facilitate his transfer as soon as possible.
He again stated that the assistant coach of the German club, Ralf Zumdick has stated his intention to fly down to facilitate any negotiation in the event of any hiccups cropping up.
He dismissed speculations that he had collected an enticement fee and a car from Asante Kotoko to move to that club. He repeated his commitment to King Faisal, saying, "I?m still with King Faisal and as you can see I?m just from training."
