Harrison Afful and Gideon Baah both departed the pitch with a point from Saturday night’s 1-1 draw between Columbus Crew and New York Red Bulls.
Baah’s Red Bulls took the lead in the 52nd minute but were pegged-back in added time by Ola Kamara’s last gasp equalizer.
The second-placed Red Bulls scored in the 52nd minute when Alex Muyl ran down a long ball down the right sideline from Dax McCarty and sent a perfect cross into the box that Bradley Wright-Phillips headed in for his ninth goal.
Time might have expired with three minutes of stoppage time added, but New York defender Gideon Baah was injured blocking a shot in the second minute of added time.
That delay ensured that Kamara got behind the defense on an inside run and was able to slide and redirect a cross from Waylon Francis for his fifth goal.
It was a key point for Columbus who were ninth in the Eastern Conference after having eliminated New York in the conference finals last season.
