Sekondi Hasaacas Coach Yusif Basigi has expressed fears that the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations could reduce attendance at Ghana Premier League match venues during the continental competition’s 23-day period.

With the Black Stars participating in the AFCON, Ghanaian fans are expected to flood Fan Parks to watch the Equatorial Guinea 2015 matches live on giant screens ahead of the local league, which many believe has grown less attractive.

“It (AFCON 2015) will affect the Premier League especially when league games coincide with Black Stars matches because you may not get fans attending the venues,” Coach Basigi toldDailySoccerGhana.com.

“The effects will not be felt in the townships like Bechem, Berekum, Wa etc. because in those localities football fans are more passionate but in regional capitals like Accra, Kumasi and Sekondi the turn out may be affected,” he added.

The Equatorial Guinea 2015 tournament commences on January 17, just one day before the Premier League kicks off and will cover 6 match-days in the domestic top flight.
