Hearts, Kotoko win to light up meet

Mon, 14 Mar 2011 Source: GNA

Accra, March 14, GNA - The two most glamorous clubs, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko capped fine wins at the weekend to light up their Premiership meeting in Accra on Sunday.

Hearts must have laboured in a game they had wrapped around their fingers a greater time of duration, but that posting a sweet revenge over Liberty, their city rivals has boosted their confidence ahead of the most anticipated meeting is the truth.

The Phobians rode on the back of a fine afternoon for Uriah Asante and a superb freekick by Esme Mends to rack in all three points which Liberty fought in vain to share to move mid-table. Without doubt, Hearts needed this win to pep their confidence ahead of that meeting with their sworn rivals whose sudden revival appears near permanent.

Three unanswered goals by Kotoko almost sound strange per their own poor outing this season and whipping ten-man Aduana Stars to move to fourth place on the log serves the tonic Kotoko needed before hitting the road to Accra.

Though the outcome of the Accra game will not determine the winner of the league, obviously the revenge on Kotoko's minds following their lone goal loss in the first round is enough to fuel an envisaged classic duel.

The league remains Berekum Chelsea's to lose after opening 13-point gap to keep their hold at the apex after beating closest contenders, Medeama 1-0.

Elsewhere, Godfred Asante and Bright Nsiah struck to give Heart of Lions a 2-0 win over Berekum Arsenals at the Kpando Park. King Faisal further bruised Mighty Jets as the debutants failed to make their switch to Akosombo Park count with a 0-1 defeat. At Obuasi, Yakubu Mohammed and Theophilus Annobil scored for Ashgold to push the Miners to third place and halt RTU's brief recovery from the bottom ranks of the table.

Ebusua Dwarfs picked all points in their meeting with bottom side B.A. United in a game Emmanuel Osei Kuffour stole the show with his only goal separating the two sides. At Wa, All Stars who have had a wishy-washy campaign beat visiting New Edubiase 2-0.
