Hearts face danger at Len Clay

Sat, 15 Jun 2002 Source: --

Come Sunday at the Len Clay Stadium, it will be the turn of defending Champions, Accra Hearts of Oak, to engage in the battle of the day when they storm the mining town of Obuasi as guests of Goldfields in a thrilling encounter..

While the Phobians were having a field day with a 4-0 walloping of hapless RTU in Accra last Sunday, close rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko were having a hell of time against city rivals, King Faisal, at the Kumasi Stadium. Eventually, it took a controversial 2-1 narrow victory for Kotoko to clip the wings of their stubborn opponents. The order will be reversed on Sunday as the Porcupine Warriors will also have a less arduous assignment at home against B.A. United in Kumasi at the same time Hearts tackle Goldfields in that titanic duel. As Kotoko's chances appear brighter against the gala lords, the same cannot be said of Hearts who can be assured of a real drill from the Aboakese boys. The miners who were recently hit by a dearth of success somehow managed to put the brakes on their recent poor showing with an away draw against Maxbees last Sunday. This performance is what coach Oti Akenten would hope to build on to cause a major stir in the league by halting the enviable 12-match unbeaten record of Hearts. But given the ever-improving performance being exhibited by the Phobians, the “Elephant” will surely have to work overtime to uproot the Oak Tree.

At Bolga, RTU's home invincibility will be threatened again when they clash with Liberty Professionals in a tight game.

A few weeks ago, King Faisal went a step further to prove how vulnerable RTU could be at home as they returned from Bolga with a draw. Liberty have the potential to tread the same path, if not break the back of their hosts in this close battle. With three victories in a row for Great Olympics, one can safely conclude that the “wonder” magic is indeed back. Thus, when the Dade boys parade against Arsenals at the Accra Stadium, the local fans can expect nothing but another carnival.

At Koforidua, Power FC will have an opportunity to improve their position on the table at the expense of visiting Hasaacas while Bofoakwa might struggle to contain King Faisal, even at home. The duel involving Mine Stars and Maxbees at Prestea can go either way, with Okwawu United facing a difficult home assignment against desperate Dawu Youngsters at the Accra Stadium on Saturday.
