Hearts urged to aspire for greater laurels

Kumasi, May 17, GNA - Mr Edward Azumah, the Kumasi Chairman of Chapter 143 of the Supporters Union of Accra Hearts of Oak Football Club has congratulated the team for winning the just-ended 2006/2007 One-touch Premier League.

"We can achieve better than the gains we have made so far", he said, stressing that it behoved on the Board and Management to discharge their duties effectively in brightening the team's chances in the next edition of the CAF Champion's League.

Mr Azumah who said this in an interview with the GNA Sports in Kumasi on Wednesday, noted that with the Club winning its 19th premiership league title, it has demonstrated its commitment to regaining its status in African Football arena and urged that the team work harder than before and aspire for greater heights.

The Chairman said it was unfortunate that after Hearts' triumph in the 2000 Champion's League, the team had consistently failed to consolidate its achievement and had to virtually struggle for survival in subsequent competitions.

On the Club's search for a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Azumah called on the Board to be cautious so as to give the mandate to a development-oriented person who would manage the Club's affairs effectively.

"We should not necessarily look out for a rich person but some one with the requisite business acumen needed to advance Hearts' development in all departments of the game", he added. Mr Azumah appealed to all and sundry to contribute generously in cash or in kind towards boosting the financial base of the Club to enable it undertake more development projects.
