As has been published on this site, striker Kofi Nti Boakye has since landed a move to Libyan club Al Ahly Tripoli, netting an amount in the region of $900,000 as transfer/enticement fees as a free agent.
Asante Kotoko has since written to the Ghana Football Association to not only register their displeasure with the situation, but also to stake a claim for a healthy slice of the money set to be collected by Nti Boakye, since his contract with the Porcupine Warriors ends on August 9 2013.
Footy-ghana.com investigations however reveal that Nti Boakye simply took advantage of the fact that by FIFA regulations, one is permitted to sign a pre contract with another club with a minimum of two months left on his contract with his present club.
According to our sources, Nti Boakye signed the Al Ahly deal with three days left on his existing contract with Asante Kotoko, with the Libyans cleverly entering August 10 2013 as the date that the three-year deal will take effect.
Footy-ghana.com can also confirm that at the time of signing his contract with Asante Kotoko, Nti Boakye was to receive enticement fees amounting to GH¢50,000 from the Porcupine Warriors, but so far, GH¢25,000 has been paid to the player.
Footy-ghana.com investigations further reveal that Nti Boakye had a buy-out clause in his Kotoko contract of €200,000, which the Libyan club and Nti Boakye himself cleverly avoided by allowing the striker’s contract to run down.
Footy-ghana.com can confirm that this why Nti Boakye deliberately turned down overtures by the then Executive Board Chairman of Asante Kotoko, Dr. Kofi Kodua Sarpong to sign a new deal, particularly when he was still owed enticement fees of GH¢25,000 by the club.
Footy-ghana.com thus understands that Asante Kotoko’s chances of recovering anything out of the $900,000 given to Nti Boakye by Al Ahly Tripoli is almost doomed to failure due to the existing situation.
