Black Stars Captain, Asamoah Gyan insist he harbours no plans of rescinding his decision not to take responsibilities of the team's penalty kicks during an open play.

Gyan has endured a love-hate relationship with many Ghanaian soccer fans in the past following his failure to convert crucial penalties and the striker says he stands by his decision to take a break from that responsibility.

"Like I said, I am no longer responsible for the team's penalties. I made the decision before the tournament and I stand by it."

But Gyan could still be called upon when need be as Ghana progress through the stages of the competition.

The former Sunderland sensation said "if we get to the quarter final stage, and I am mandated to take a kick because that is the only option for decider, then I will take my part."

The last time Gyan missed from the spot was at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea last year when Ghana was dumped by Zambia at the semi finals.

The striker is yet to register his name among on the scorers sheet thus far, with the team accumulating four points of a possible six.

Gyan is expected to lead the team against Niger in their last Group B meeting in Port Elizabeth next Monday.
