I cherish winning SWAG Cup than league-Duncan

David Duncan has hit out strongly at football faithful in the country who mock him as coach without any major trophy in his career.

Despite winning the SWAG Cup, the Macufe Cup in South Africa and the President’s Cup, he is being rated as one of the coaches who haven’t won any meaningful trophy in their career.

Ahead of the FA Cup, which presents him an opportunity to win one of the two highly rated trophies in Ghana, Coach David Duncan has indicated that he values winning the SWAG Cup and other titles he has won before than the league and FA Cup titles and it surprises him when people tag him as a coach who hasn’t won anything.

“The truth of the matter is that I honestly don't lose a sleep at all for not winning FA Cup or league. People have given names to the trophies that supposedly are up for grabs here in the country by describing league and FA cups as majors.

“Majors and the others I don't know the kind of names that they give them whether those are minor cups. But come to think of it, in 2006 if I was adjudged SWAG's best coach in Ghana and I think that is huge. In my opinion it is an accolade, a tag that for me is bigger than winning Ghana's league or FA cup,to be honest with you.

“I have won cups in South Africa that involves Orlando Pirate. Where is Orlando Pirate now? They are part of the four teams that are vying for the CAF confederation cup and I beat them with a simple team like Free State Stars in South Africa. I wouldn't exchange that for Ghana's league cup trust me. I won the President Cup with Hearts playing against Mazembe in the final and also beat Kotoko in 2006 to win the SWAG Cup.

“I need to clear that because a lot of people make a lot of stuff about that. Some people even say I have not even won anything at all before. It is relative. The kind of things I've won I cherish them more than the things that I haven't won to be honest with you,” Duncan said in the FA Cup final pre-match conference.

He added that some clubs even decide not to win the league because they don’t have what it takes to compete in Africa, so winning it doesn’t make a coach better.

“We have a league people win and do not want to represent in Africa. What does that suggest? That means the guy doesn't want to win and for that matter even if they are on top they will do something that will make somebody else to win,” he added.
