Aduana Stars defender Emmanuel Akuoko says he had to take a booking for the sake of the team in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Great Olympics in Accra.
He told footy-ghana.com that had he not fouled the attacker, Great Olympics could have gone on to level the scores.
“It was a 2 versus 1 situation and I was the last man. Fortunately I was able to foul the attacker and took the yellow card. I was taking the yellow card because if I hadn’t fouled the player, he would have passed to his team-mate and Olympics would have equalized.”
Akuoko also told footy-ghana.com that even though Olympics played well, his side showed more determination, adding that the entire team is targeting the Premier League title this season.
“That is our target this season; to win the league and so we are fired up for every game. Olympics played very well, but we were more determined to take all three points. We want the title and for us, every game is important.”
Aduana Stars, winners in 2010, currently top the FCPPL standings; one point clear of Ashanti Gold
