I have no hand in cajoling Nyaho to resign - OB

Accra, Mar. 22, GNA - Mr O. B Amoah, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports has denied influencing the minister to cajole Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to resign.

The embattled GFA boss alleged that the minister, Yaw Osafo-Maafo, tried to coax him to resign at a meeting last Friday against the backdrop of mounting pressure from Ghana League clubs Association (GHALCA).

But Mr Amoah told the GNA Sports on Monday that no such suggestion was made to Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe at the meeting rather, the gathering was to look at the way forward of the country's football.

He expressed surprised at Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe's assertion that he was the brain behind the alleged resignation story and said he did not belong to any clique trying to remove him from office.

"I'm not a member of GHALCA, neither do I belong to any club, so it would be wrong for any body to imagine I have ganged up with people to remove Nyaho", the Deputy Minister said.

The meeting was to have continued on Monday but Nyaho was not in town.

The GFA Chairman has been battling the Executive Council at the law court for the past six months over calls for his impeachment. Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe has also filed a contempt of court against Congress, the highest decision making body of the GFA for passing a vote of no confident in him while the case was still on.

The 16 premier clubs who form part of GHALCA have also threatened to boycott the Ghana Telecom sponsored league scheduled to kick- start on Sunday, April 3, unless the Chairman vacates his post. But Nyaho would not budge saying the minister did not put him there and therefore could not force him to resign.

"I will be surprised if he thinks he is dealing with someone who will easily give in like that", he said.
