I want to play for Reading, says Kwesi Appiah

Ghana international Kwesi Appiah hopes to rejoin English Championship side Reading next season after spending few months with the team this year on loan.

The 24-year-old striker, who is owned by Crystal Palace, moved to Reading on a short-term deal last February, after the 2015 African Cup of Nations, but returned to his parent club early this month after The Royals’s final game of the season.

“I’ll look to have a good pre-season and we’ll see what happens after that. You never know, hopefully that door is open but it’s up to the gaffer what squad he wants here next season,” Appiah told Reading Chronicle .

“If he comes calling then it’s up to Crystal Palace whether they want to let me go. I’d be happy to stay here (Reading) though.

“I’ve been treated fairly since I’ve been at Reading. The gaffer has been brilliant with me. He’s a top coach and manager. I’m grateful for the opportunity and delighted to get my goal.

“It’s been a tough spell since I came here on loan. Derby was my first win since arriving so it was a good day and I’d be happy to come back next season if the opportunity presented itself.”

Appiah scored only one goal for Reading, which he describes as the fastest of his entire career.

“That’s the fastest goal I’ve scored and I’m quite pleased with that as when you score early it gives you a lot of confidence,” he said. “The pass was short and their defender didn’t realise until it was too late so I nipped in and went past him, then you saw what happened next.

“I seem to do well on TV. Every game I have played on TV I have scored so yeah, I loved it.”

Born in England, Appiah began his career at Peterborough United in 2008 and has been loaned out 10 times since then.

He represented Ghana at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.
