Kumasi, Dec 15, GNA- The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Kumasi Asante Kotoko will continue to support the team and any management that would be elected by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II if he decides not to renew their mandate to handle the club.
Mr Kwadwo Nyantakyi, IMC member in-charge of players' welfare, who made the pledge in Kumasi, said, "whatever decision Otumfuo takes is in the best interest of Kotoko and Asanteman and we are bound by it". He said many were a Kotoko fan who had their doubts about the capabilities of the IMC when the Asantehene appointed them but their annexation of the Premiership, the club's first since the league went professional, had justified Otumfuo's decision.
Mr Nyantakyi, who is also the chairman of the Ashanti Regional Circles Council, was inaugurating Circle 49 of the Club at Oforikrom in Kumasi on Saturday.
He called on the club's teeming supporters to give serious consideration to Kotoko's bid to build its own stadium since that will ensure that the club generates enough funds for its sustenance.
"Though we have established contacts with some European friends who are ready to assist us following the team's recent performance, our supporters at home will have to show commitment towards this project which is anticipated to commence next year".
Mr Nyantakyi commended the various circles for their immense support for the players' welfare both in cash and in kind adding their gesture went a long way to motivate the players to win the league.
Mr Osei Boateng, National Circles Chairman, told the circles executive to desist from pursuing their own parochial interests to the detriment of the club and stressed that there was the need to place the interest of Kotoko over and above all other things if the club should consolidate its support base.
Mr Yaw Asante, chairman of Circle 49 and national circles public relations officer for the Northern sector, gave the assurance that they will continue to support the team for it to recapture its rightful place in Africa.
Joe Louis, one of the players who was invited to grace the occasion, affirmed that the players will translate their performance in the just ended premier league at the CAF Champions league and called on the teeming supporters of the club to rally behind them.
