Inter Allies defender Baba Mensah insists that his outfit will halt Ashantigold SC who are without a defeat in the second round when they face the Obuasi-based club in Week 18 of the Ghana Premier League at the Tema stadium by midweek.
The 20-year-old admits Inter Allies are not in good shape ahead of Wednesday’s showdown having played five matches without a win but believes the team has improved compared to last season, and will be able to hand the Miners their first defeat in the second round of the league.
“We obviously had a bump in the road last season but not this term. The team is defensively stronger and we’re performing incredibly well in general. We are the second team after Wa All Stars with the best defence in the league having conceded a fewer number of goals so we can upset any team on a good day,” Mensah told Goal.
Ashantigold are on the verge of clinching their first league title since 1993 as they lead the log with 33 points, seven points above second-placed Berekum Chelsea but the bulky defender is not perturbed of their form.
“We’ve trained very well ahead of our game against Ashantigold on and I honestly believe we are ready to halt their dominance. We need to win this game and also hope to win our next game on Sunday against Hearts of Oak to help us move away from dropping into the relegation battle.
“Ashantigold handed us a 2-0 defeat in the first round but we will pay them back with their own coins,” he added.
Allies lie 12th on the league log with 22 points, three above safety but a victory will move them up to fifth position.
