Ipswich to sign Arsenal’s Frimpong on loan

English Championship side Ipswich Town are looking into the possibility of signing Arsenal’s Ghanaian midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong on loan, it has emerged.

The 21-year-old is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Gunners this season, and looks unlikely to live up to the potential initially seen in him in his teens as he was viewed as one of the most promising young players at the club.

Frimpong has previously gone out on loan to Fulham and Charlton Athletic, as well as Wolverhampton Wanderers where he played under current Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy. The manager is believed to be keen to link up with Frimpong again, and that Arsenal too would be open to allowing the midfielder to leave.

Frimpong was previously mentioned in connection with the Blues a year ago soon after McCarthy took over at Portman Road when the Town boss dismissed the link. However, he admitted he was a fan: “Nothing at all [in the link], except that I admire Manny.

“He’s a really a good player. He came to Wolves and was excellent and then he did his cruciate again at QPR. He’s a player that I really like.”

Ipswich currently lie in 10th place in the Championship, and are hoping to make improvements to their squad as they chase a playoff spot this season. The likes of Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic are also looking to make loan signings this January, and may also keep an eye on Frimpong's situation.
