Sat, 3 Mar 2001 Source: ?

Born: Dec 30, 1982
Position: Forward
Current Club: Hearts of Oak (Ghana)
Best Goalscorer: Ghana 2000 (19)
Tropheys: African Champions Cup 2000, African Super Cup 2000.

"Addo is as deadly as a cobra."

-- World Soccer includes him in a list of 100 rising stars.

-- scored 5 goals in the African Champions Cup 2000: 2 goals against Jeanne D'Arc (where now Shakhtar defender from Senegal Ndiaye Assane played before), against Nigerian champions Lobi Stars (2:0) in the group stage and scored a goal in each leg of the final, won by Hearts of Oak against Esperance 2:1 and 3:1.

Interestingly, Esperance is the club, where now Shakhtar forward Julius Aghahowa played. Hearts have not lost a game in this year s CAF Champions League.

-- Hearts of Oak defeated Zamalek Club of Egypt 2:0 with one goal by Ishmael Addo to win the African Super Cup -- their fourth title in the 2000-2001 season. Accra Hearts of Oak will take on the world's best at the FIFA World Club Championship tournament in July 2001.

-- the dreaded and prolific goal-scorer of Ghana and Accra Hearts of Oak has maintained the goal-king lead.

Right from the start of the 2000 league, Ishmael Addo made his intention clear with some difficult-to-score goals to announce his intention to retain goalking title.

At the end of the league the precocious star who also emerged the World Under-17 goal king in 1999 banged in 19 goals to retain his title.

Earlier in 1998, Ishmael Addo placed 2nd to Joe Fameyeh, another Hearts of Oak.

We estimate the chances of the signing to be very high, especially after the news that Shakhtar Donetsk sent back to Ghana Issah Muhammed (N9 in the list) after trials. This could be even bigger transfer news than Nigerian forward Julius Aghahowa as Addo plays and scores regularly for his team. Note, Dynamo Kyiv was also following Addo, but seemingly was not fast enough...
