Ghanaian defender Yakubu Issahaku believes he will soon break into the senior team of Belgium giants Lierse SK following an impressive performance with the reserve team this season.

The 20-year-old joined the Lier-based club last season alongside two other Ghanaians on trials, subsequently earning a place in the junior team.

“Everything is well with me here. My development has been one of the best but I’m still hoping and praying to break into the first team very soon,” Issahaku told Goal.

“I know it won’t be long, but I keep working hard and patiently waiting for that moment.”

The former JMG Academy graduate says he feels at home in Belgium due to the constant help he gets from Ghanaians in the country, which has contributed to his progress.

“I’m improving day in and out because this place is like home to me. There are a lot of my countrymen (Ghanaians) around and they assist me in several ways which helps me to focus on my career,” he said.

Issahaku’s main objective at the moment is to impress senior team coach Olivier Guillou and earn a place with De Pallieters.

“I hope Guillou will be impressed with my performance and grant me a role in his set up. I had a stint with the first team during the pre-season, playing against Sporting Rotterdam, Bochum and Vitesse but I want more,” he said.
