Bechem United striker Augustine Okrah fulfilled his promise not to celebrate against former team Asante Kotoko if he finds the net on Sunday after he perfectly converted a second half penalty in between Abdul Aziz brace.
Bechem United were beaten 2-1 by the Porcupine Warriors at the Baba Yara Stadium but in-form Okrah is happy he scored, describing his side as “gallant losers.”
Aziz opened the score for the league leaders before Bechem United drew even through goal poacher Okrah. He was hauled down by defender Ohene Brenya after he dribbled past him but referee S.B Bortey was close to the action and pointed to the spot.
Okrah stepped up and perfectly slotted the ball past goalkeeper Joseph Addo in post but Aziz restored Kotoko’s lead with his fifth of the season minutes later to steal all the points for the Fabulous Club.
“It was all joy after scoring because we were finding it difficult to find the equaliser,” Okrah told Goal Ghana. “I was carried away and nearly celebrated but I remembered my promise and halted after running about a metre.”
Nimble footed Okrah believes Asante Kotoko were lucky to win on the day, adding that Bechem United defence were a bit sluggish.
“We could’ve won the game if not for certain defensive errors but in total we played well. I can say we’re gallant losers and everyone at the stadium will attest to this. We gave Kotoko a good run for their money; we didn't deserve to lose this game. I believe we should focus on our next home game next weekend.”
Okrah scored his eighth goal in eight matches in the second run and is currently leading the race for the prestigious goal king diadem with 11 goals, one ahead of Seidu Bancey.
