Kumasi, Sept. 14, GNA - A book dubbed "Pride and Glory; Black Stars in Germany 2006", which eulogizes the feat chalked by the senior national team, the Black Stars at last year's World Cup competition has been launched in Kumasi.
The 127-paged book was authored by Mr Joe Aggrey, former Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports and prefaced by President John Agyekum Kufuor.
Mr Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng, a media consultant and former editor of "The Mirror" edited the book published by Digibooks Ghana Limited. Other contributors to the book include Professor Atukwei Okai, Secretary-General of the Pan-African Writers' Association (PAWA) and Mr Ebo Quansah, former President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG).
The book highlights the history of the Black Stars from their World Cup qualifications, the road to Germany 2006, the senior national team in perspective and the way forward.
Launching the book on Thursday, Nana Yaw Owusu, Asantehene's Mpaboahene, praised Mr Aggrey for the good work done and called on Sportswriters to emulate his example.
"Sports Writers should explore avenues to document the success story of the Black Stars for posterity sake", he noted.
Nana Owusu emphasized the need for Sports Journalists to always research and sharpen their skills and technical know-how for the improvement of their work.
Mr Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, Ashanti Regional Minister, called on corporate bodies and stakeholders to invest in the Black Stars to enable them live up to expectation in the next edition of the World Cup in South Africa in 2010.
Mr Aggrey said that the book was informed by the sterling performance of the Stars in last year's World Cup finals and commended President Kufuor for his commitment to the development of football in the country.
