Patron SC have taken a giant step towards winning the Jordan Anagbla Memorial Cup after making it out of the group stages.

Patron were paired with Hearts’ junior team Auroras, Dawtex FC and Rapid FC in group 2(A) and were the least favourite to progress from a group that harbored some of the most established clubs in the third tier of Ghana football.

They commenced the tournament with a defeat to Rapid FC at the Nania Park after conceding a last-gasp goal despite putting up a great spectacle for fans who came to witness the game. Patron’s Samuel Mantey was awarded the MOTM for his performance despite his team being on the losing.

The second round matches of the competition saw Patron take on Dawtex FC and once again they young players aided by their returning skipper Maxwell Yaw ‘Pablo’ took the game by the scruff of the neck and produced another fine display.

Patron SC’s Mutala Mohammed’s low-struck penalty was cancelled out by Dawtex FC in the dying minutes of the game and head coach of Patron attributed it to “loss of concentration caused the concession of the goal but we will make amends going forward”.

With just a point from their opening two games, the only option available to Patron SC was winning their last group game against Legon FC who entered the tournament after Auroras pulled out.

There was everything to play for and with their owner and supporters behind them Patron SC glided their way through to round 32 winning a one-nil victory.

George Yemo latched on to a long pass from Sam Mantey to score a goal that later proved to be the winner for Patrons SC.

The round of 32 matches of the Jordan Anagbla Cup will start on Saturday April April 27 and Patron SC will hope to make it to the last 16.

The tournament is in honour of the lat Jordan Anagbla, a former vice president of the Ghana Football Association
