Goal can reveal that Kaizer Chiefs are assessing Mbabane Swallows striker Mike Mohammed, who has spent the whole of last week with the team in Potchefstroom.

According to Goal sources at Naturena, the Ghanaian-born forward was close to joining AmaKhosi last season, but visa problems and the return of Knowledge Musona cost him a PSL contract.

"Mike is in camp with the team. He's still being assessed by the technical team. Contract negotiations will only take place once he has impressed," a source within the Chiefs camp told Goal.

Goal has also learnt that Doctor Khumalo was instrumental in influencing Stuart Baxter and the club to take Mohammed for trials. He reportedly saw the marksman in action last year, and felt he's good enough to play for Chiefs.

"He caught the eye of our assistant coach about a year ago, and he recommended him to the club. We'll have to wait and see how it goes and we will possibly know soon enough," added the source.

The Soweto giants are looking to find Musona's replacement as soon as possible, as they are fighting a losing battle to keep the Zimbabwean forward from German club TSG Hoffenheim.

However, they remain positive of re-signing Musona, although they're still in the dark as to whether he will return to Naturena or move to Europe with another club.
