Abrankese (Ash), April 27, GNA - Obuasi Ashanti Gold held Kessben F/C to a 1-1 drawn game in their Onetouch second round Premier League match played at the Anane Boateng Sports Stadium at Abrankese on Sunday.
Kessben were the first to score in the second minute of the game through Bismark Idan when he delivered a powerful low grounder to beat goalkeeper Fatau Dauda after a first attempt at goal within the first minute of the half.
Undaunted by the early goal, Ashgold who played without their marksman, Alex Asamoah in a swift counter attack also equalized four minutes later through Owusu Sefa with a long range shot with goalkeeper Frank Andoh out of the posts.
The stage was then set for a real battle with both teams playing it hard resulting in a ding dong affair. Kessben earned a corner in the 25th minute but wasted it while Ashgold also wasted an opportunity in the 28th minute.
Ashgold continued to pile pressure on the home side but failed to translate their chances into goals.
Referee Samuel Sukah of Akatsi in the 36th minute in a state of confusion showed a red card to Ashgold's Sefa after flashing a yellow card but quickly rescinded his decision with a yellow after a consultation with his assistant referee two Sulemana Abudu.
After the recess, Ashgold brought on James Tagoe for Eric Adu-Poku in the 61st minute, with Kessben also substituting Baba Iddi for Douglas Nkrumah a minute later.
In the 65th minute, Sefa who was on target shot off target while Idan also wasted an opportunity in a counter attack with a near miss in the 67th minute.
Determined to carry the day, Kessben improved on their game by bringing in Isaac Danquah for Edmund Owusu Peprah in the 79th minute with Ashgold also replacing Richard Awuah for Osei Kofi in the 80th minute.
Ashgold nearly took the lead in the 83rd minute but a header from Sefa was saved by goalkeeper Ando. As they continued to fight for the leader they had another chance in the 85th minute but Nathaniel Quaye wasted it.
Kessben mounted a last minute onslaught but could not find the net until the referee whistled for the end of the match.
