Having missed being part of the international break, Kevin-Prince Boateng was fresh enough to make the starting XI for Las Palmas when they welcomed Espanyol to Estadio de Gran Canaria on Friday night.
Even though the game ended in a goalless draw, Boateng had his side’s best opportunities to score against the visitors.
His first of three key chances came in the 12th minute when he found space in the box to receive a pass but saw his shot stopped by goalkeeper Diego Lopez.
Lopez would stand between the 29-year-old and glory once more in the 48th minute as Boateng connected a cross with his head but the keeper was in good position to stop him. The third chance came 10 minutes later without luck for the former Ghana star.
Las Palmas shared the points, their third straight stalemate after 2-2 draws with Real Madrid and Osasuna.
Boateng was sent off in their last defeat, a 4-1 loss at Real Sociedad. However, Las Palmas have continued to dig in but have been unable to return to their early form where they won three out of four matches.
The Canaries now have 12 points after eight games.
