Forward Kevin-Prince Boateng is banking on Ghana’s ‘underdog’ tag to excel once more again at the World Cup having been drawn against powerhouses Germany and Portugal in Group G.

The Black Stars will take on three-time winners Germany in the second group game days after opening its campaign against USA.

Kwesi Appiah’s team will then file out against a talented Portuguese team armed with the best player on the planet Cristiano Ronaldo in the final group game.

Bookmakers have predicted the progress of Germany and Portugal at the expense of Ghana and the USA in Group G.

This apparent lack of attention and awareness of the threat of the Black Stars particularly excites Ghana’s Schalke star who believes the side will profit again from the lowered global expectation at the world showpiece.

“As underdogs, we want to pull off an upset. Everyone thinks Portugal and Germany will progress to the last 16, and that takes the pressure off us,” Boateng told the FIFA Weekly.

The 27-year-old former Germany youth international however remains measured in Ghana’s chances at June’s World Cup in Brazil.

“I’m not talking about winning the World Cup though; I don’t want to create any expectations.” He added.

Ghana is making its third successive appearance at the World Cup following progressive stints in 2006 and 2010 in Germany and South Africa respectively.
