Goalkeeper Richard Kingson recovered from his worrying head injury in time to travel back from Blackburn with his Birmingham team-mates.

The Ghana international was involved in a sickening collision with the post after a challenge with Christopher Samba and was stretchered off just before half-time in the 3-0 Carling Cup defeat at Ewood Park.

But after a series of hospital tests the 29-year-old was back with the Blues squad for the journey back to the Midlands on Wednesday night.

Manager Steve Bruce told the club's official website: "Richard returned from hospital in time to join up with us on the team coach after the game. He was a little bit dazed and confused but that is understandable.

"He has had all the relevant tests as a precaution but he is absolutely fine and there is no serious injury. I am delighted and relieved that he is absolutely fine."

Bruce admitted that Kingson's display against Rovers prior to his injury had put him in contention for further first-team action.

He added: "I thought he was terrific. He has done exactly what we wanted him to do which is put Maik (Taylor) and Doylie (Colin Doyle) under pressure and he gives us that third goalkeeping option."
