Kotoko Appeal To CAF, As Hearts Head For Angola

Accra Hearts of Oak will travel to Angola to play AS Aviacao in the second leg of the first round of the African Champions League on the weekend of April 23-25.

The Phobians qualified for this stage of the competition after beating the Malian team Stade Malien in the preliminary stage of the competition.

Their Angolan counterparts yesterday edged out Cimenterie Lukala of the Democratic Republic of Congo 2-1 on aggregate.

The first leg of the clash will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium on the weekend of April 9-11.

The Angolans are said to be particularly strong away performers as they Cimenterie Lukala 0-1 away from home at the preliminary stage. The second leg ended 1-1.

Meanwhile Ghana?s other Champions League team Kumasi Asante Kotoko will travel to Ivory Coast for the first leg of their first round clash with ASEC Mimosa on the weekend of April 9-11. The second leg will be played at the Kumasi Sports Stadium two weeks later.

Kotoko qualified for this stage of the competition after their opponents in the preliminary round Tempte Mocaf of the Central Africa withdrew.

Meanwhile with the volatile political situation in Ivory Coast and an uneasy relationship between supporters of Kotoko and ASEC in the past which resulted in deaths, Kotoko are expected to appeal to the Confederation of African Football through the Ghana Football Association for assurance of the safety of their entourage for the first leg match.
