It appears issues about the rift between Asante Kotoko Chief Executive Herbert Mensah and the P.V headed Board of Directors would never go away. Herbert and the board never get on well especially when it comes to the issue of financing the club. Now an Accra bi-weekly newspaper claims that the latest source of rift is with when Chief Executive Herbert would hand over the day-to-day administration of the club.
The newspaper said the rift caused the abrupt end of the last board meeting. In characteristic fashion, Kotoko has reacted swiftly to the story. In a statement, Board Secretary Larry Otto described it as an attempt by detractors of the club to frustrate the march towards Africa Cup glory. Mr. Otoo told myjoyonline.com that he is not aware of any occasion when Herbert’s departure date has caused rift at a board meeting.
“Herbert has of course said that he will leave at the end of this season. He has said it publicly and at board meetings but that has never caused the abrupt end to a meeting as the newspaper sought to claim”. Otoo admitted however that there have been a few times when the disagreement between Herbert and the board members has caused tension at meetings. But said “P. V Obeng is matured and handles these issues with a great deal of tact and maturity. At least everyone agrees on the fact that something must be done on financing”.
