Kotoko Fined ?2 million

The Ghana Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee has slapped a ?2 million fine on Kumasi Asante Kotoko for refusing to use the dressing room in their league match against Hearts of Oak, which they lost by three goals to nil.

According to the Disciplinary Committee’s ruling, the Porcupine Warriors, brought the game of football into disrepute. Before kick off for the match, which was played about a fortnight, players of Asante Kotoko dressed up on the tartan tracks of the Accra Sports Stadium.

Their refusal to the use the dressing room compelled the match officials to inspect the Kotoko team in the stadium arena instead of the dressing room.

The fine meted out to Kotoko is in accordance with the FA’s regulations and the match reports by the officiating referees and the Match Commissioner. GFA General Secretary, Kofi Nsiah in the release ordered Kotoko to pay the fine within 21days from the date of receipt of the decision.

The FA has also warned Asante Kotoko and all other clubs to refrain from all acts that are likely to bring the game into disrepute or face punitive sanctions.

Meanwhile, two officials of Bofoakwa Tano have been banned from associating themselves with any football club in the country for a year.

The two officials, Kwasi Ansong and Kwaku Baah were alleged to have attacked the referee in their 14th week league match against B.A United at the Sunyani Coronation Park. In addition to the ban, the two officials are to pay a fine of ?200,000 each within 21 days.
