Kotoko Grabs More Players

Kumasi Asante Kotoko is likely to sign on two top players from Kwaebibirem Stars to augment the strength of the Porcupine Warriors in the next season, club insiders have hinted the Mail Sports.

The sources believed it was a deal brokered between Kotoko boss, Herbert Mensah and Oheneba Charles a couple of weeks ago to show appreciation for the withdrawal of bribery charges against the Kwaebibirem Chairman at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee. Pressing the case could have shattered the hopes of Oheneba Charles in his aspiration for the chairmanship of the most enviable seat in Ghana sports. The source claimed Kotoko only needs to name the players on their shopping list and the necessary arrangements would be finalised without any hitch. Names that have been mentioned are two key players in the Kwaebibirem line- up, Oppong Kyekyeku and Osei Kofi for their defensive roles.

Kotoko's need for strikers has driven them to the camp of Bofoakwa where Kwame Antwi, offensive midfielder Kofi Asiedu and enterprising Anthony Mintah are the target on their swoop. Of course, goal-getter Tanko Muhammed, Nana Frimpong, the schemer cum striker and Kwabena Poku all of King Faisal have also been targeted. From Power F/C, Yaw Acheampog is being eyed. But the chances of Sulley Muntari from Oweriman cannot be ruled out. Kotoko's main rival in the player poaching business,Accra Great Olympics, have also embarked on a heavy recruitment exercise which even defending league Champions Accra Hearts of Oak will envy. But trust Liberty Professionals in their quest for promising players. Two clubs are pulling the strings to sign on Philip Dadzie of Half-Assini based Unity Stars. Agents of both Kotoko and Hearts are maneuvering to have him in their next squad but these top clubs may have embarked on a wild goose chase if a deal with ASEC Memosa of Abidjan is clinched.
