Kotoko To Seek Financial Assistance from Gov't

Kumasi Asante Kotoko will ask government to come to its aid in the course of the week. The club is currently preparing for the first leg of the African Cup Winners Cup in Morocco but says its finances cannot support the trip to Casablanca. The club’s budget for the first leg is close to one billion cedis.

Officials of Asante Kotoko say they cannot bear that cost alone and are therefore imploring government to lend a financial arm to their Cup Winners Cup final campaign.

Kotoko has launched a fundraising drive ahead of the Morocco trip asking fans and well-wishers to pay monies to a special account created by the club.

Additionally, small collection boxes have been placed at strategic points and some radio stations in Kumasi, Kotoko’s stronghold and in Accra, the nations capital. These collection boxes called “Kitsua biara nsoa” or “every small contribution is appreciated” are designed to accept contributions from fans who may not be able to make large donations to Kotoko’s cause.

An official of Kotoko, Jarvis Preprah told JOYONLINE that gate proceeds from Kotoko’s matches and the fund raising alone cannot support the trip to Morocco to play Wydad Casablanca. Kotoko will therefore ask government to vote some funds to support the club. Jarvis Preprah says Kotoko’s coffers have been depleted by the club’s African Cup campaign which has seen it travel to Angola, South Africa, Egypt and now it is Morocco bound.
