Asamankese(E/R), June 1, GNA - The celebrations and joy of a soccer fan of Kumasi Asante Kotoko at Kade over the Club's recent victory against Kade Hostpurs ended when he was slashed to death by a 35-year-old farmer, Kwaku Opare.

Opare who appeared before a Asamankese Circuit Court on Monday was charged with the murder of Kwame Peter, 22 and has been remanded in prison custody.

His plea was not taken and he is to re-appear on June 16. The Prosecutor, Police Chief Inspector G. D. Bruce told the court, presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah that after the Kotoko victory over Kade Hotspurs in their GT Premier League match on May 22, the deceased went to a drinking spot at Abodom near Kade with some friends to celebrate their victory.

He said however on leaving the drinking spot, Peter met the accused (Opare) and allegedly attempted to quench his partly-smoked cigarette on his face which the latter resisted and a witness in the case advised them to stop the issue.

The prosecutor said instead of heeding the advice, Peter was alleged to have giving Opare a blow on his face that resulted in a bleeding from his nose and the two then engaged in a fight but they were separated.

Inspector Bruce said while Opare was in his house he was informed that Peter was armed with a cutlass heading towards there and the accused therefore rushed into his room and locked the door. The prosecutor said Peter forced the door open and attacked Opare and inflicted cutlass wounds on parts of his body but Opare managed to disarm him and in turn slashed the neck and the back of his attacker who fell down and died instantly.

A report was made to the Police and Opare was arrested while he was seeking medical treatment at the Kade Health Centre. 01 June 05
