Kotoko's head coach resigns

Kumasi, Feb. 10, GNA - The head coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club Maurice Cooreman has resigned from the Club. The coach attributed his resignation mainly to what he said was undue pressure which had consistently been put on him by some supporters of the Club for his perceived non-performance.

Coach Cooreman in an interview with the GNA Sports in Kumasi on Tuesday said he tended in his resignation on Tuesday morning following a meeting with the Management of Kotoko. "At certain stages in my stay with Kotoko, supporters consistently threatened my life and warned me if I did not live up to expectation in the field of play", he lamented. He stressed that since his life was more than football, he had resolved to resign so as to save his precious live.

Coach Cooreman cited an instance when some supporters held him hostage for close to about six hours and threatened to visit mayhem on him if he did not resign for losing to Accra Hearts of Oak in their Ninth Week clash at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Mr Sylvester Asare-Owusu, Chief Executive Officer of Kotoko when contacted by GNA Sports said management has officially received the resignation letter of coach Cooreman. He said his outfit has in the meantime appointed assistant coach Isaac 'Opeele' Boateng as the caretaker coach of the club to handle the affairs of the Club. The Chief Executive Officer appealed to the supporters to exercise restraint and be supportive of the management and the new technical bench as they put things in order to facilitate the development of the Club.
