Asante Kotoko say they will not compete in the 2014/15 Premier League season if their prize money for winning last season’s campaign is not paid.
The Porcupine Warriors are yet to receive the prize money for emerging champions of the First Capital Plus League for the third successive time.
Headline sponsors of the Ghanaian top flight – First Capital Plus Bank – has asked for two weeks to pay the prize money to Kotoko after it emerged the money they released for the awards ceremony was inadequate to cater for payment of the prize money.
The champions say they will wait patiently for the two weeks requested by First Capital Plus Bank but warned they will pull out of the new season if the headline sponsors fail to make do on their promise.
“We have spoken to officials of First Capital Plus and they have assured us that we will receive our money in two weeks time,” Kotoko spokesman Ali Maradona told Metro FM.
“So we wait for two weeks to see what happens. After the two week period, we will see what to do.
“But then I can already tell you that if they fail to pay us what is due us in the two week period, I can assure you that Kotoko will not play the league when all the outstanding issues are sorted.”
