Bayern Munich's Ghanaian defender Sammy Kuffour will miss their opening game of the German season.
A back injury sustained by Kuffour has kept him out of Friday's match against Eintracht Frankfurt.
"The risk [of aggravating Kuffour's injury] would be too much," said Bayern Munich manager Ottmar Hitzfeld.
French international Willy Sagnol will play in Kuffour's place.
The Ghanaian has been the subject of intense transfer speculation, with reports linking him with a big-money move to Spanish champions Real Madrid.
But Bayern president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told the Die Bild newspaper that the Bundesliga champions had not received any offer from Real and were not interested in selling him.
