Kuffour to become idol of River Plate hinchas

River Plate fans have daubed the name of Bayern Munich defender Sammy Kuffour on a banner to be displayed when they visit the Bombonera, home of rivals Boca Juniors.

Supporters of the Buenos Aires club piled into shops, despite the most severe recession in Argentina's history, to buy Kuffour shirts after the Ghana international scored the winner against arch-rivals Boca in last week's Intercontinental Cup final.

The African was voted man-of-the-match and earned himself a Toyota for his performance. "It's cool that I won the car. I'll give it to my mum who still lives in Ghana," he said.
