Ghana’s Bennard Kumordzi is confident KRC Genk will pip giants Anderlecht to lift the 2013 Belgium Super Cup trophy in today’s crucial tie.
The 28-year-old has been key to Genk’s domestic and European campaigns helping them to win the Belgian FA Cup – the feat that made them contestants for the Super Cup to Anderlecht.
Giants Anderlecht claimed their 32nd Pro League title after winning the Championship Play-offs.
Genk’s successful era has been heralded by a compact midfield with the presence of Kumordzi who joined the side at the start of last season from French side Dijon.
Sunday could be yet another big moment for the former Arsenal-target if they are able to overpower Les Mauves et Blancs at the Stade Constant Vanden Stock in Brussels.
There is also a Ghanaian presence at Anderlecht – Ghana U20 winger Frank Acheampong’s precocity might not guarantee him a place on their team-sheet for the game.
However, he would be eyeing his second title success with the side after having a feel of the Pro League title two months ago.
However, Kumordzi remains confident of an ambitious Genk side stand a greater chance of reaching yet another milestone.
“It is always great to reach the final and put yourself in competition to win something. Anderlecht is a good side but we’ll fight to win it,” he said.
Kumordzi scored two times in Genk’s pre-season games and scored to claim the Belgian Cup title for Genk.
