Kwame Ayew, a Ghanaian foreign-based football player in Turkey and an old student of Ghana Secondary School (Ghanasco) in Tamale has donated sports equipment valued at 70 million cedis to the school.

The equipment included footballs, tracksuits, jerseys, sports shirts, shorts and vests.

Presenting the items on behalf of Ayew on Thursday, Mr Thomas Sayibu Imoro, President of the Ghanasco old boys' association, said the donation was to motivate the students to take sporting activities seriously.

He said Ayew wants the students to see his sporting ability as a challenge to them to endeavour to perform better in their fields of sports.

Ms May Asobayri, acting headmistress of the school, commended the old Boys Association's immense contribution to the development of their alma mater.

She mentioned in particular the role of the association in the renovation of the school library, dormitories and staff bungalows.

Ms Asobayri assured those who have contributed in one way or the other to the school's development that their donations would be put to good use.
