Accra, July 31, GNA - National broadcasting and media rights for next year's African Cup of Nations in Ghana exclusively belongs to the Local Organising Committee.
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for Ghana 2008 has therefore requested owners of bars, restaurants, hotels and other places arranged for commercial purposes interested in telecasting matches of the competition to contact the Secretariat to secure the licensing rights. Magnus Rex Danquah, Chief Operating Officer of the LOC said in a statement copied to the GNA Sports that this forms part of the LOC's objective to make gains to defray the huge financial investment by government in organising the 26th edition of the continent's soccer showpiece event.
"It is therefore illegal to telecast matches within the country and at commercial places within the country, without the express approval or consent of the LOC."
Rex Danquah explained that the measure is to protect the interest of all authorised investors, hence the decision to fight against all forms of 'ambush' marketing.
The LOC, it would be recalled, last week published the list of logos and insignia related to the biennial event for interested persons to secure the rights.
The 26th edition of the competition is scheduled for January 20 - February 10 at the Ohene Djan sports stadium in Accra, Baba Yara stadium - Kumasi, Tamale and the Essipong venues meant to host the 16 teams. 31 July 07
