Former Hearts of Oak midfielder Laryea Kingston is set for a showdown with the Accra based club even though he has been released by the former Africa champions.

Hearts of Oak announced yesterday, June 25 that they had lifted a ban on the Ghana former international which was imposed on him in January this year following disciplinary issues.

Laryea is on the verge of landing a deal with American third tier soccer team Phoenix FC, but is yet to get the all clear from Hearts of Oak.

This is because according to the 32 year old, the club is reluctant to give him a release letter.

He has therefore given the management of the club by close of today, June 26 to give him the document failing which he will hold a news conference to reveal certain ills within Hearts of Oak.

Laryea has been set free of the sanctions, but will have to stay at the club to see out his contract which expires next month.

According to spokesperson of Accra Hearts of Oak, Saeed Muheeb, “the management of Hearts of Oak has taken a decision to withdraw sanctions against Laryea Kingston, his suspension has been lifted, but we have not released him.

He explained: "He has a contract with Hearts of Oak that expires at the end of July and we think that it will be an exercise of self-contradiction if we release him at the end of July and still have sanctions imposed on him.

“So we will actually release him when his contract expires. Remember a player under suspension cannot be transferred to another club.”
