Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi is rallying Ghanaians to be compassionate towards returnee midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng.

The German-born Ghanaian has been ruled out of the crunch Ghana – Egypt World Cup first leg play-off due to a late injury. He has come under heavy criticism from certain quarters for lack of commitment to country.

However, the FA boss has told the BBC that Ghanaians should rather “show sympathy to him and not condemn him.”

“Every player would like to go to the World Cup - and this is the biggest platform to the World Cup. Kevin would wish to be here,” Nyantakyi emphasized. “Kevin has had six injuries on his left knee and this particular injury has occurred on that [same] knee.”

The head of the West African country’s football governing body stressed the Schalke star means well for Ghana and would not fake injury just to miss the game.

“It would be unfair to think that somebody can feign injury. We should sympathise with him and pray that he recovers soon, so he can stage a comeback to the Black Stars team.”

The Black Stars will face off with the Pharaohs in Kumasi on October 15 (Tuesday) at the Baba Yara Stadium.
