Leyton Orient, a first division club in England have agreed to participate in the maiden Mylik Classic 2002 Under 19 football tournament scheduled for the Accra Sports Stadium from November 20 - 30.

Mr Kofi Bawuah, Technical Director of Mylik said he had received a seal of commitment from the English club and consultations are going on the select seven local Under 19 sides to complete the number.

He said the eight teams would be pooled into two groups of four for round robin qualifiers from which the first two from each group would proceed to the semi-final stage.

The technical Director said the purpose of the tournament is "to provide a platform for young talented footballers to catch the attention of major stakeholders in Ghana football through the mainstream of existing establishments."

He said another objective of the programme is to afford the national selectors an opportunity to identify and observe gifted young footballers in match situations for the purpose of building a reservoir of young footballers for easy access in time of need.

Mr Bawuah said it is the desire of the management of Mylik to make the tournament an annual affair and assured soccer fans that in subsequent editions the number of foreign teams would increase to give it a bigger international flavour to rival such competitions in Europe.

The technical director who holds a GFA coaching license and another from the Netherlands Football Association (KNVB) said in due course the tournament would be expanded to involve under 17 and under 14 teams.

He said a worthy trophy would be awarded to the winner in addition to gold silver and bronze medals which would go to the first three placements.

Mr Yaw Bawuah, a former chairman of the Board of Directors of Asante Kotoko and Mr Kofi Mpiani who holds a UEFA coaching badge are other members of the board of Mylik.
