LIBERTY Professionals yesterday struggled to beat visiting RTU 2-0 in their not-too-exciting premiership duel at the Accra Stadium.
In spite of the victory, the performance put up by the homesters was ordinary as they could only be certain of victory midway through the second half.
This was after RTU had done so well to hold their opponents in the scoreless first half.
But obviously not in any mood to compromise, Liberty, with coach Sellas Tetteh and Technical Consultant, Cecil Jones Attuquayefio, directing them were fired up after surviving a 51st minute scare when goalkeeper Cudjoe Addo punched Joe Adjei’s shot to corner.
However, the introduction of Ibrahim Atiku in the 59th minute provided the clue for Liberty as the midfielder announced his presence barely three minutes later by drilling home a low shot from a freekick just outside the box.
Still drawing inspiration from a non-stop Kpanlogo music from their fans, the homesters continued to search for more goals and were rewarded in the 70th minute when influential John Paintsil sneaked through the RTU defence to connect a deep cross from Atiku.
RTU came close to reducing the tally on the stroke of full time but keeper Addo gallantly saved a fierce 30-yarder from skipper Komi Adzagba while Emmanuel Pappoe scooped out the rebound from substitute Philip Amoako.
