Local coaches deserve respect - Orlando Wellington

Coach Wellington

Ex-coach of the Black Satellites Orlando Wellington has called on authorities in football in the country to show local coaches some respect. The man who vacated his job as the trainer of the nation’s youth team believes there is something fundamentally wrong with the kind of contracts offered local coaches and the approach to such contracts.

Speaking on Kapital Radio the Ex-Berekum Chelsea coach said, ‘The approach and sort of contracts we sign brings problems to us as local coaches. At the end of it all when they sack you or relieve you of your duty there are problems. There are many examples to be cited of disagreements and acrimony after coaches are sacked. We the local based coaches deserve some respect. That is an area that we should take a critical look at.’

He also debunked assertions that he vacated his job because of intense pressure from his superiors and fans saying, ‘Pressure is part of the job and if it forces you not to concentrate on your job then it is bad. When you work in Nigeria where there is a large population that is football crazy you can’t say you are running away from pressure. It is part of the job.’

Orlando Wellington vacated his job as Satellites trainer a fortnight ago. He also had stints with Premier League sides Heart of Lions and Berekum Chelsea whom he guided to the league trophy two seasons ago.
