English side Manchester City have recalled their Ghanaian midfielder Dominic Oduro from his loan with Swedish second-tier side IK Frej Taby, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.
The 20-year-old’s recall coincides with the start of the pre-season training ahead of the new season which has sparked hopes that he could be given the chance to play for Man City.
Oduro has made a big impact in Sweden this season with Superettan club IK Frej which has prompted City’s desire to observe him at first hand.
IK Frej are unhappy that their influential Ghanaian player is unable to extend his stay signalling that they cannot afford to keep the talented right midfielder.
“The loan agreement with Manchester City expires after Ostersund match and unfortunately we cannot afford to extend Dominic’s stay,” IK Frej manager Bartosz Grzelak said.
“Of course it’s sad that we cannot keep him with us.
“We thank Dominic for having contributed in an extraordinary way both on and off the field. We wish him good luck in the future.”
If the Ghanaian is unable to grab a place in the Man City squad he could be sent out on loan again as he has spent the past two years in Europe playing on loan with various clubs.
Oduro joined Manchester City’s youth academy from the Right to Dream Academy in his native Ghana in 2011.
After a successful trial, he joined Danish Superliga club AGF in January 2013 on loan for 18 months.
He made his debut for the club in a 2–0 win against FC Vestsjælland on 27 July.
