Dutch-based striker Elvis Manu will be handed his debut call up to the Black Stars for this month’s 2015 AFCON qualifying games against Uganda and Togo.
The 21-year-old who plays for Dutch giants Feyenoord will be named by interim Ghana coach Maxwell Konadu in his latest squad for the final round of qualifiers for next year’s finals, according to several reports in the local media.
Manu’s recent form has caught the eye of Netherlands coach Guus Hiddink who is poised to hand the Ghanaian a debut call up into the Oranje squad.
This will mean, Ghana will no longer be able to rely on the Dutch youth international at senior level once he is capped with the Oranje.
This was the similar situation that robbed Memphis Depay the chance to play for Ghana as he went on to feature for the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
But the Ghana FA wants to move quickly this time around to secure the future of the rising talent and will back coach Maxwell Konadu’s decision to call up the powerful striker who is also able to play on the wings.
Manu’s inclusion for this month’s games will be very vital especially when Ghana will be without Jordan Ayew who is suspended.
Lead striker Asamoah Gyan is also doubtful for the games as he is still recovering from a thigh injury sustained over a fortnight ago while in action for his UAE club Al Ain.
Ghana leads Group E of the 2015 AFCON qualifiers and will book its place for next year’s finals a win out of it remaining two qualifying games against first away to Uganda and then at home to Togo.
