The Volta Region branch of Match Commissioners Association has expressed its condolences to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the bereaved families of victims of last Wednesday's tragedy at the Accra Sports Stadium The association, meeting at Ho on Friday, said it heard with shock the tragedy that befell Ghana soccer and would like to console the GFA and the bereaved families and wish those injured speedy recovery.
It expressed support for the commission of enquiry into the incident and called on the GFA and the National Sports Council to take steps to check hooliganism at stadiums to prevent future mishaps.
The conference executive expressed displeasure at the way members are selected for matches and promoted.
This situation, it said, has led to some members lobbying for matches
and others leaving the association.
The Conference retained the old executives made up of Mr. Gideon Akator as Chairman, Mr. Charles Gadotor Vice-Chairman, Mr. John Tay, Secretary, Mr. Frank Denakpor, Vice Secretary and Harry Atutornu Treasurer.
