Match officials complain of absence of security at DOL matches

Accra, July 5, GNA - The absence of security at the Indafa Park in Accra at the week-end nearly marred the beauty of the Division One League (DOL) match between home side, Mamprobi Zaytuna F/C and visiting Voradep F/C from the Volta Region.

Some club officials and supporters therefore took advantage of the absence of the security personnel to attack the match commissioner after the referee had awarded a penalty in favour of Zaytuna FC in the 28th minute.

The referee had hectic time in officiating the match and to convince some of the fans who had massed up behind the goal post harassing the goalkeepers of both teams.

Mr. Jonathan Oblitei Commey, the match commissioner who was attacked during the incident, told the GNA Sports that it was the duty of the home team to provide security for the match but they failed to do so and gave the assurance that there was no cause for alarm. He suggested to DOL to impose heavy fines or penalties on clubs who fail to provide security during their home matches or else the success of the league would be marred by such incidents as well as retaliatory events.

When the match started, it was Zaytuna who made an early incursion and earned a 28th minute penalty, which was perfectly converted by Kennedy Shamsudeen to give his team a 1-0 lead.

Voradep, despite being down by a lone goal raised the tempo of their game and put on more pressure on the home team and in the 36th minute, Godwin Gagah latched on a loose ball and dashed into the goal area to deliver a shot for the much needed equaliser for his side. The second half recorded no goal until the referee blow his whistle for the end of proceedings to bring the final scores to 1-1.
