Medeama SC to appeal against CAF fine

Information reaching Sportscrusader indicates that, Medeama SC will appeal against the decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to fine them $15,000 for crowd trouble during their Confederation Cup match against AC Leopards of Congo.

Early this morning, information trickled in from the continent’s soccer ruling body slapping the heavy fine on the Tarkwa-based side after they found the Ghanaians guilty of crowd violence during the return fixture against the Congolese side.

The match commissioner accused the supporters of the home team of throwing missiles at the visiting team which delayed the start of the second half by fifteen minutes.

The Disciplinary Committee of CAF had ordered the Ghanaian side to pay the fine within 14 days but the communications director of the club Tony Nkrumah Boateng says the club will file for an appeal.

“We have received a letter from CAF ordering us to pay $15,000 for a supposed crowd violence during our game against AC Leopards,” Boateng told medeamasc.com

“But we take strong exception to the ruling and will file an appeal appropriately.

“The decision is extremely harsh and we will let CAF hear our side of the story. Definitely we’ll file for an appeal.”

The Tarkwa-based side won the game 2-0 but lost 5-4 on penalties at the Essipong stadium.
